Rossland Museum
A social event at the Rossland Museum. Come check out the ski room and archival ski footage of Red Mountain, Old Glory and many other Rossland people and places. Stay for refreshments and snacks.
Ginger Baines, whose father, Chess Edwards, was the first Red Mountain racing coach and ski school instructor, will give an introduction to the films, and be around to answer any questions. She recognises many of the skiers in the Club footage and was a National Ski Team member.
Films:
Professional Hermits Operate Canada's Highest Weather Station: The film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada in 1954 and gives us a glimpse into the lives of those who lived at the weather station residence on top of Old Glory many years ago. As a hike to Old Glory peak is a Rossland tradition, this film is an entertaining "must see" to learn more about the Old Glory weather station and the people who created its vibrant history.
Nancy Greene film: shows Nancy racing and training prior to her Olympic successes and culminates with the World Cup at Red Mountain.
Red Mountain Ski Club footage from the early 1950's: shows the original chairlift, skiing on the face of Red and footage taken at a High School meet with slalom, crosscountry and ski jumping.
