Cascade of Light – 25 minutes

Marten Berkman, a film maker from the Yukon shares the story of an adventure from urban home to arctic river, and a paddle to the Beaufort Sea. In the silence of vast spaces, crushing power of the river and uplifting arctic light, the geography of this place uncovers unexpected insights.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind – 8 minutes

This film takes you below the surface of the Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria, to show the abundance of life in one of the few protected Marine Reserves in all of the B.C. coastline. The journey begins with a human story of overcoming fear, and attempts to open the doors into this aquatic world that for many remains out of sight and out of mind.

Via Bearzi – 33 minutes

Via Bearzi is the completion of a film envisioned by Michael Bearzi just before his untimely death in the Himalaya in 2002. His aim was to portray the essence of two-man alpine climbing up a new route on Gyachung Kang in Tibet. Using Mike’s video, and a lifetime of stunning mountain still photos blended with accounts of his fellow climbing partners, friends Jeff Alzner and Brook Kirklin completed the film. Compelling music provided by Tibetan performers from Banff’s The Tara Cafe Project.

Devil’s Club and Blazes – 32 minutes

Winner of the RDKB Special award for Best Environmental Film!

A grassroots film about a group of cultural heritage field technicians travelling via raft through a remote wilderness landscape in Northwest British Columbia. The film was shot as part of a research expedition to document ancient First Nations trails along the spectacular upper Skeena river. The film tells a unique story about a place that has escaped development yet has been culturally important to the Gitxsan First Nations who have lived in the area for many years. Devil’s Club and Blazes follows the story of one Gitxsan chief wo is fighting to protect her traditional territory in the only way she knows how; by getting people back on the land. The Skeena Awareness team faces white water adventure and challenges of the bush as they journey into the past.

Long Road North – 93 minutes

Leaving behind his office with no windows, Gwendal Castellan realizes his dream of adventure, to travel halfway across the planet at a human pace and experience the story of the road. Seen from the handlebars of a bicycle, the world is a lot smaller than he ever thought. This epic journey begins at the most southern tip of Argentina, taking us through eighteen countries along the longest road in the world. From the mountains of Patagonia, through Latin American mega-cities and small-town America, to the sparse reaches of the Canadian arctic, we get a glimpse of what it would be like to drop everything and hit the open road.
